Vintage Decoware Tin Lithograph Lunchbox

This wonderful little tin was made in the 1950s by Decoware. The company that manufactured Decoware was called The Continental Can Company and these were released as a line of colourful and convenient storage and carrying solutions. They were vastly popular, developing everything from cake tins and trays to lunchboxes and picnic baskets. The pictures on the tin display all sorts of physical activities; sledding, American football, baseball, bike-riding and roller-skating. The lithography on the side, the off-white colour of the interior and underside, even the handles themselves are definitely Decoware. Oddly enough, however, the stamp that is normally found on the base is missing. This is the only example I've managed to find with a missing maker's mark, so this may just be an original!

It measures 20 cm x 14 cm x 10 cm and is in fair condition, given its age. There are scuffs and scrapes all over the piece with one small piece of rust on the rollerskating girl's leg, there's some loss of paint on the interior base, but otherwise it is in very good condition. Even the original tray is still present. The double handles are securely attached and work wonderfully.

It's a great piece of mid-century history - a snap-shot of a child's day - that would make a beautiful piece of storage or decoration.
