DetailsThese cuff links seem to be a one-of-a-kind creation. I have been unable to find any design even remotely related to the NHLPA logo, making these a unique find... They're quite beautiful.
The NHLPA has been around since the 60s. It was formed as a result of some owners acting unethically, trading away players or sending them to the minors if they mentioned or associated themselves with any Union-type activity. It seems the league refused to release financial pension information and the players were, basically, forbidden from finding out their financial position. Ted Lindsay of the Detroit Red Wings and Doug Harvey of the Montreal Canadiens did their best, garnering a fair following of players. However, this effort ultimately failed, as there were only 2 players that were really spearheading the movement and after several out-of-court settlements with various players, the organization was disbanded. It wasn't until 1967 that the NHLPA was formed, as we know it today. It has since played an instrumental role in the development and protection of the players in the National Hockey League.
This handsome set of cuff links was probably produced in the late-60s or early-70s, as a commemoration of the Association. They are made of Sterling Silver (and marked as such, both on the pieces as well as the clips) and gilded gold to give a warm feel. They are in excellent condition, with no appreciable scratches or blemishes.
The faces (main logo) measures 3.5 cm by just shy of 2 cm.
They would make a wonderful gift for the ultimate hockey fan.
